The Government's Communities Plan (sustainable Communities:Building for the future) acknowledges that sustainability is only possible where local communities play a leading role in determining their future development, identifying as a key requirement " effective engagement and participation by local people,groups and businesses, especially in the planning, design and long-term stewardship of their community."

Over the coming weeks we aim to fill this section, not only with inspirational examples of what is being achieved by community action, but also sustainable best practice across a range of issues, such as building, transport, recycling, retail and the local economy, in fact, you name it and we will do our best to find helpful examples.
