Lewes Matters Discussion Forum

Re:Environmental issues - 2006/01/12 15:41 In response to Gordon’s post I like many others welcomed Norman Bakers new year message in the Sussex Express singling out climate change as the biggest threat facing us and also his desire to “keep a close eye on planning proposals.” With the biggest development Lewes is likely ever to see proposed some 800 metres from his doorstep there lies a golden opportunity as Lib Dem environment spokesperson to show visionary leadership in regard to the environmental footprint of this or any subsequent proposals for the area.
At the end of the Town Meeting in December the mayor left us in no doubt that this brownfield site would be developed and Angel properties ambitious outline plans are still scheduled for the end of January. My ongoing meetings with Charles Style and Angel representatives show a willingness to take these environmental issues seriously
and an approach to the excellent Lewes based architects BBM sustainable design to explore possibilities is welcome news. Although there is environmental legislation in place with new building legislation regarding CO2 emissions soon coming into force, will the developer, architects and builders simply adhere to regulations ,cutting the odd corner here and there or create a radical innovative and visionary model for living that the town can be proud of.
Let us hope our MP leading from the front will champion the latter.

Dear site visitor at IP address 38.103.63.61. We were forced to make it necessary for you to register and login before making forum postings because of the constant flood of unwanted and often abusive material that was being uploaded by anonymous spammers from all over the world. I'm sure you know the sort of stuff - viagra ads and the like - what a bore! But you can of course read the postings without logging in, and in any case it only takes a couple of minutes to register - you're not losing your privacy, but you're keeping out the spammers. So do please register and continue using the forum - we need your input! Thanks, Lewes Matters Admin.
