Tree Preservation Order, Waitrose Store, Eastgate - 2006/06/04 16:05Lewes Council have sent out details of Tree Preservation Order (No 4) 2006, Waitrose Store, Eastgate Wharf, Lewes. They made the provisional order on 10 May and have asked for comments and representations by 15 June.
The main area, G1, runs along the line of the Waitrose car park area on Phoenix Causeway - four silver maple, eight Norway maple and one sycamore. There are also five other trees along the side of the road coming out of the cark park onto the Causeway (Eastgate Wharf) - one sycamore, two Norway maple and two Monterey pine.
They say in a covering letter, 'We have made the Order because of a perceived threat of felling exists from possible future development at the Phoenix Industrial Estate. The trees are considered important because they help screen the car parking area of the store and they provide an important visual amenity for the area. It is considered that their loss would impact on the environment and its enjoyment by the wider public of the area.'
Comments and letters of support need to go to Lindsay Frost, Director of Planning & Environmental Services (lindsay.frost@lewes.gov.uk), with a copy to the Tree Officer, Daniel Wynn (daniel.wynn@lewes.gov.uk).

Re:Tree Preservation Order, Waitrose Store, Eastgate - 2006/11/01 12:30Small point. Please use the full Council name, in this context Lewes District Council. It is confusing for many that since 1974 we have 3 Councils that effect Lewes; LTC, LDC and ESCC.

Lewes Town Councillors regularly defend the town against apalling planning recommendations, before Lewes District Council approve them, ignoring their electorate, and making mistakes in the process. If I was him, I would seek to avoid the confusion.
