A history of the Jam Factory - 2007/04/10 16:32I am the journalist who looked into Angel Property's flagship project, the Jam Factory in Bermondsey. I spoke about its problems at a public meeting in March.
After seven years the Jam Factory is still not complete. Finished buildings hold more residential units and have more storeys than originally approved, one building stands empty and another has not been started. The affordable housing has not been delivered.
A stalemate exists between Angel Property, Southwark Council and the residents that must not be repeated in Lewes.
I have written up my findings and placed them, along with PDFs of the original documents, on this website:

Re:A history of the Jam Factory - 2007/04/10 18:29It's good to see David's article and supporting documents on here - chapter and verse. Anyone who is still not convinced that Mr Style and his works are not for Lewes should take a trip to the Jam Factory to judge for themselves.

Re:A history of the Jam Factory - 2007/04/11 13:33David's research is impressive and appears to be extremely even handed. This is what happens if you get a developer pushing his luck and an overstretched council losing control. In the end the residents have stepped in and used the local government ombudsman and the courts to sort things out. Let's hope our equally stretched planners have the energy, the resources and the bottle to stand up to all the pushy developers (not just Angel) who are trying their luck in Lewes. If not, the Jam Factory residents have shown the way.
