Re:arts centre - 2006/04/26 18:17Romaine Hart who runs the Screen Cinemas is a close family friend of mine, she has stated that she feels a three screen cinema like the Duke of Yorks will work in Lewes. She has huge experience with this type of operation as she runs cinemas in a number of small towns and not just in London. She has cinemas is Winchester, Reigate, Walton on Thames and Oxted. She also has a house in Sussex so is very familiar with the area and is very keen to open here. The type of programming she does is of a wide appeal to all age groups and interests and the facilities are all of a very high quality. We did have a board at the exhibition which shows her cinemas. I would refer you to the website www.screencinemas.co.uk

Re:arts centre - 2006/04/26 18:25Dear Mr Style,
If there is one thing about the proposal that everyone I have spoken to really wants, it is the cinema. Three screens sounds about right to cater for the arty market as well as children's and blockbusters. Please do not at any stage drop the cinema. You would loose much tacit support if you did.

Re:arts centre - 2006/04/26 18:58I agree, and would like to see a definite requirement for this, as it is one of the only appropriate remaining sites in the town where such a facilty could ever be constructed. Is there any provision for sports/leisure facilites too for all these extra people?

Re:arts centre - 2006/04/26 19:59I have given a committment to the woman who operates the Gym on the site to find space in the development to locate a new Gym. Other leisure uses are likely to be restaurants and bars, we would also like to see a performance space in the main riverside restaurant for music.

Re:arts centre - 2006/06/27 00:07One thing that nobody has mentioned about the promised cinema is that it appears from the plans to be on land that Mr Style does not own. Perhaps he could he could let readers know if it that is the case and, if so, whether he is certain he can acquire that particular piece of land. If not, anyone who supports the Phoenix proposals because of the promise of a cinema may want to think again.
