CABE to our rescue? - 2006/05/10 13:37I've just seen the references to CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) and have taken a look at their website, in particular their review of the proposed development at King Alfred, on Brighton & Hove seafront, in which Angel Property's architect Piers Gough is also involved.
They say things like "the need for sections clearly demonstrating the relationship of this development with the existing properties" and "to fully test this we would expect to see many more images of the proposed views from the immediate and wider area" and "The concerns we previously raised about the height and form of the perimeter block remain; the new visualisations show us that they are monolithic and over-scaled, and we think that these buildings should be rethought"
Isn't this exactly the sort of thing we've been asking for/saying about the proposed Phoenix Quarter development?
I for one look forward to hearing what CABE have to say.

Re:CABE to our rescue? - 2006/05/10 14:27I am not too confident on the view of CABE, or English Heritage, so we shouldn't pin our hopes on them, but it would be worth contacting them and asking what local knowledge we could help supply them with in the absence of a Conservation Area Assessment.
