Design Principles - 2006/01/09 19:23
The West Sussex Design Commission proposes the following as 30 principles which should cover the elements that will deliver quality buildings and public places... 01 Maximisation of Quality (for buildings and open spaces) 02 Lifetime Involvement 03 Spirit of Community 04 Everyone to have Opportunity to Contribute 05 Lifetime Accommodation 06 Costs 07 Inclusivity 08 Mobility and Accessibility 09 Scale 10 Avoidance of Crime 11 Health 12 Innovation 13 Always Strive to Improve 14 Sustainability 15 Character and Tradition 16 Natural Environment 17 Landform, slope and Gradient 18 Longevity and Flexibility 19 Density 20 Mixed Use 21 Public Realm 22 Brownfield First 23 Materials 24 Details, decoration and colour 25 Art and Water 26 Signs 27 Lighting 28 Weather, Climate and Microclimate 29 Litter and Waste 30 Undergrounding Would be nice if there were some prospect of adopting something along these lines in our case. Although to these principles you would have to add infrastructure, because as so many people are pointing out, a big new development puts additional strain on the existing services and facilities. Where is this examined at the County Council level? They have a Traffic Strategy department, but what about all the rest? Any comments?
