Design Principles - 2006/01/09 19:23 The West Sussex Design Commission proposes the following as 30 principles which should cover the elements that will deliver quality buildings and public places...
Maximisation of Quality (for buildings and open spaces)
Lifetime Involvement
Spirit of Community
Everyone to have Opportunity to Contribute
Lifetime Accommodation
Costs
Inclusivity
Mobility and Accessibility
Scale
Avoidance of Crime
Health
Innovation
Always Strive to Improve
Sustainability
Character and Tradition
Natural Environment
Landform, slope and Gradient
Longevity and Flexibility
Density
Mixed Use
Public Realm
Brownfield First
Materials
Details, decoration and colour
Art and Water
Signs
Lighting
Weather, Climate and Microclimate
Litter and Waste
Undergrounding
Would be nice if there were some prospect of adopting something along these lines in our case. Although to these principles you would have to add infrastructure, because as so many people are pointing out, a big new development puts additional strain on the existing services and facilities. Where is this examined at the County Council level? They have a Traffic Strategy department, but what about all the rest? Any comments?

Dear site visitor at IP address 38.103.63.61. We were forced to make it necessary for you to register and login before making forum postings because of the constant flood of unwanted and often abusive material that was being uploaded by anonymous spammers from all over the world. I'm sure you know the sort of stuff - viagra ads and the like - what a bore! But you can of course read the postings without logging in, and in any case it only takes a couple of minutes to register - you're not losing your privacy, but you're keeping out the spammers. So do please register and continue using the forum - we need your input! Thanks, Lewes Matters Admin.
