Lewes Matters Discussion Forum

It looks great! - 2008/02/05 15:11 I've had a good look at Angel Property's revised Master Plan as posted on this site yesterday, and I must say it looks and sounds great. I cannot imagine why anyone would not vote for it to go ahead. If built as described (and I suppose the cynics out there will say "Ah, but will it?") it will bring Lewes into the 21st century with a vengeance - new jobs, things for young people to do etc etc. And it will look even better. FANTASTIC!!!

Thanks to Angel Property for persevering and to Lewes Matters for continuing to probe. Well done everyone. That's what I think.

Re:It looks great! - 2008/02/12 16:19 It's good to see Adam is so delighted and of course if there is to be a development we want the best for Lewes.

But I'm not so sure about his comment about 'cynics'. We've seen enough about the Jam Factory to be entitled to at least wonder whether i) Angel have the ability to deliver, and ii) Angel have the intention to deliver. You can see them falling down on both these scores as you work your way through the Jam Factory saga.

It's not 'cynical' to judge someone by their past performance. It's common sense.

Re:It looks great! - 2008/02/22 23:17 I'm not so sure about this development at all, becuase of the planning issues but I would be interested to know what you specifically like about the plans?

Re:It looks great! - 2008/03/02 09:28 To be honest, I'm tempted to bounce the question straight back to you i.e. ask you what you find objectionable in the new masterplan. As we're told by the planning authorities, the issue is the plan, not the developer. So what's wrong with it?

But I will answer you, by referring to the summary of the Lewes townspeople's wishes published on the front page of this site...

Exciting, sustainable development that will enhance our town.
That will integrate with the historic town centre, rather than dominate it.
That will bring affordable housing within the grasp of our young people rather than send them out of the area.
That will create and safeguard existing employment, rather than undermine it.
That will have as a key principle, the inclusion of a wide range of sustainable technologies and targets, rather than pay lip service to them.
That will improve the infrastructure, rather than burden it.
That will complement our specialist retail base rather than overshadow it.

Seems to me the new plan fulfills those wishes pretty well.

Re:It looks great! - 2008/03/14 14:30 Well, I am just a bit confused by your different responses on different threads. Are you being ironic in your comments about this too? The materplan is pointless, as it is being proprosed by a developer who has demonstrated at the Jam Factory that he does not do what he promises in plans.

This wishy-washy 'masterplan' has been written by a developer who calls an 8 story tower block, a 4 story building with a tower on it. I am afraid, like Lewes District Council, the scales have fallen from my eyes ever since I found out what this indivduals actual record is, and the 'processes' he uses.

I am desperate to see a credible developer take over this site and do someting sensible with it, even if it is just tidying up and improving the delapidated properties that are being neglected in contempt of those of us who have to use, and look at them.
