Re:Conservation Area Advisory Committee - 2006/05/09 13:35
Miranda - Conservation Area Advisory Committees don't have teeth. But they can deliver a mighty strong suck.
Their role is to advise with no executive power. But because of the strength of membership - crammed, hopefully, with professionals in many relevant disciplines - their opinion is listened to. By Council Planning Departments,
by Councillors sitting on Planning Committees, and by smart developers who want to save time and money by getting things right at the planning stage. My most daunting task will be to persuade LDC that it is not unique - that it will gain immeasurably from the presence of a CAAC for Lewes - just like so many other, similar Councils. I had hoped to see some comment from a Council Planner on the forum, even if it was negative. I will, of course, be contacting the Council Planning Dept in due course, but need to conduct further research first. However, by going public at this stage, I hope that when we do meet, I will be preaching to the converted. A foolish hope, perhaps....
