Re:Conservation Area Advisory Committee - 2006/05/12 16:28Do the railings have planning permission? I don't remember seeing them on original plans.
There may well be spomething you can do about this.

Re:Conservation Area Advisory Committee - 2006/05/16 14:42The creation of a CAAC in Lewes would be advantageous to the Lewes and would assist in preserving and enhancing the County Town.
Current arrangements between the planning department and other agencies do not fully reflect the impact that certain planning applications have upon the conservation area. Likewise the comments from these other agencies are not necessarily quoted correctly at planning application committee meetings. For instance, English Heritage stated that the Baxter’s redevelopment was reminiscent of a coastal development – this was interpreted by the planning department as “overwhelming support”.
In the absence of a Conservation area report and without the local knowledge that a CAAC could provide, it is understandable why consulted agencies are unable to provide correct and appropriate statements.
The creation of a CAAC is long overdue – I certainly welcome the proposal.

Re:Conservation Area Advisory Committee - 2007/05/11 16:12It's a great idea, Anthony, and it can't come too soon. If it only did half the work you and Marco have done with Lewes Matters it would still be good value.

Re:Conservation Area Advisory Committee - 2007/05/15 16:23I think the time has come for the Planning Department to explain where the Conservation Area assessment actually is. The work was done, yet it has vanished. Where is it? and why has it not been published?

Re:Conservation Area Advisory Committee - 2007/05/15 17:02I asked Mike Lea, the Lewes DC Conservation Officer, why we were still waiting after over 12 months for the results of the preliminary consultation. He said on 8 May,'The documents are still being finalised by the consultants.' Nice work if you can get it.

Re:Conservation Area Advisory Committee - 2007/05/16 17:36I know someone who raised this issue several years ago. This is completely unacceptable. If you go to the library there is a document from 1969 saying that it is a consultation but a lot more needed to be done. So can Mike Lea explain why it has been under consultation since 1969! What has the Planning department been using instead? It is not surprising that our Coucil cannot nurture our greatest asset if this is the attitude that is taken towards Conservation. The lowest priority possible.
