Re:Persecution of Jenny Mumford - 2008/05/01 10:32 Sorry I missed the photo call for Rees Elliott Plaza. I didn't read the posting till after the event.

Back to Jenny Mumford. A good number came to the Town Meeting. There was a long lecture from the Town Clerk (who wasn't there) on what had happened at the Planning Committee. The fact that people were frustated and annoyed clearly registered. The meeting passed unanimously a resolution that Lewes Town Council should look into legal and administrative options for challenging the Lewes House planning approvals. I have no confidence that they will seriously look into this and they have the excuse that the next Council Meeting is Mayor Making at which no business is transacted and the one following is not until 19 June.

What should we do? We've talked about requisitioning a Town Poll if the Town Council won't act unprompted. But it's an action that, like going on strike or going to war, should only be undertaken as a last resort. But at this pace, the last resort will be reached after the twitten walls have been breached and the social housing block has been built behind what remains of them.

Meanwhile, the march on Saturday 3 May at 12 noon from the skateboard park does seem to have them worried. There'll be a band and there should be TV cameras there too. Hope to see you all there.

Re:Persecution of Jenny Mumford - 2008/05/20 09:42 LDC harssing Jenny Mumford has now become even more ridiculous

It has now beenn acknowledged by English heritage that the 'ice-house' that is part of Church Twitten (, and School Hill House, is also Listed.

Lewes District Council didn't know it was Listed, and didn't check with English heritage, so have approved Conservation Area Consent to demolish it!

So the Council who are threatening a resident with court over 6 25year old screw holes can't even identify or look after a Listed Building themselves, and have in fact tried to get it demolished! What hope have any of us got with this level of incompetence.

It is hardly surprising that our embarassing Council is now appearing in Rotten Boroughs in Private Eye. Rotten indeed.
