Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/22 04:07 You sue me I'll sue you...
I can see this is going to end up with handbags at 10 paces again...
No bad thing, at least it's a bit of entertainment.
I really don't see what all this fuss between the wise and the good is about. Mr Styles is obviously an honest, well meaning bonza bloke.
Lets face it, this is a run down brown field site... blot on the landscape springs to mind so it's not as if Mr Styles is decimating one of the 7 Wonders of the World is it?
Not only that there are far worse things that have changed the face of Lewes " as we know it".
Has anyone noticed that it now ressembles a giant kids play mat?
Can't park anywhere?
Local traders rightly whinging while local authority rakes in the parking monies.. bit like Dick Turpin Highway Robber Extraodinaire
Can't blame Mr Styles for that.
Though born and bred in the town I've moved out of Lewes... couldn't stand the decimation.
Nonetheless this area is begging for change, needs building on, will also save the government money on a bit of flood defense so can't be bad. Give the river the opportunity to flood somewhere else. Keeps people on their toes.
Well done Mr Styles. Don't be disheartend. Onwards and upwards and all that.
Regards,
PhilX
ps. how did I do dad? ?? ???

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/22 19:12 Mr Style has assumed I was able to visit the exhibition, which I was not.
I am instead being informed by this site. So far I gather that tower blocks
of up to 8 storeys are planned, with large numbers of people densely packed
ito a small geographical area. It looks to me as if the controversial
leaflet was accurate, and that he is planning the Manhattan Quarter, not the
Phoenix Quarter!

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/22 19:32 I suggest you await the planning application before you decide what it is that we are proposing, the height and massing will very clearly stated and there is no need to hype it up or to panic. We are very well aware that Lewes is not Manhattan or London or even Brighton, we do realise that. Please also be aware that there were no 8 storey blocks shown in our exhibition, only some small sections of buildings were shown at this height, with one flat per floor, these small slim towers are part of the architects design and are considered to be appropriate as they add interest to the skyline. The density also will be very clearly stated and will not be controversial.

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/22 22:23 Why if Charles Style wants to consult and respond to the reasonable views of Lewes residents do we have to wait until the planning application is made before we can have a clear answer to the oft repeated questions:
- what is the developers' current target for housing density
- how high will all the various buildings be (lets not split hairs about whether they are blocks or towers if they are 8 stories high they are 8 stories high)

Why I am I not reassured to hear that we will eventually get a straight answer to these very clear questions, but not before an application is safely lodged?

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/23 00:15 Dear Mr Style,

A building with at least one flat in it per story, that is 8 storeys high, can reasonably be described as an 8 storey 'tower block' because that is what it is. A tower shape, built in a block formation consisting of a minimum of 8 flats. Out of interest, how many flats are on the other storeys of this 8 storey building?

It seems that many are now interested to know the answers to my other questions are, so I do hope you will provide them.

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/23 00:21 So, John Stockdale was right about the '8 storey buildings' after all.
