Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/24 20:04 Dear Mr Style

I am sorry you feel like we are all cynics.

Unfortunately both Piers Gough and yourself have made a number of undiplomatic comments and threats that have rather made our point for us.

This is a potentially exciting opportunity for the town, but it is also a potential disaster that could completely destroy the infrastructure and appeal of the town permenantly. I welcome your promises to engage in a continuing debate so that if any approval is given, it is one we can all be satisfied with, including yourself.

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/24 20:39 One thing the developer might like to answer is which small towns in the south of England does he consider to have been improved by a development of this nature and which have suffered by failing to be developed? It would be useful to have some actual examples to which we can relate.

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/25 16:15 Not a single person visiting this site, including the developer, has mangaged to suggest a town that has benefitted from a major development. The Phoenix plans must have taken their inspiration from somewhere that we can aspire to? Any suggestions?

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/25 18:19 I have said previously on this website that to a certain extent the inspiration for the Phoenix Quarter came from the masterplan for the Brewery Square Development in Dorchester. This scheme which now has outline planning was designed by Piers Gough for Brewery Square Ltd. CZWG are now preparing the detailed planning applications for many of the buildings along with other architects such as Conran Design. The similarities are many. Dorchester has a very similar population to Lewes. It is the County Town of Dorset, like Lewes it is a very historic location. The mix in terms of uses is very similar and the benefits to the town in terms of new public spaces and new arts, leisure and shopping facilites have been very well received by the local people. I have said previously that should people be interested to see this scheme that I would ask the developer for permission to display it, he has consented to this and I will talk to Marco to see if we can get some info on this scheme onto this website.

Re:Phoenix Action - 2006/04/25 19:43 Thank you, I'm sure the plans will be very interesting but it would be more helpful if you could provide an example for something which has actually been built. An existing working scheme would be rather more reassuring.

Dear site visitor at IP address 38.103.63.61. We were forced to make it necessary for you to register and login before making forum postings because of the constant flood of unwanted and often abusive material that was being uploaded by anonymous spammers from all over the world. I'm sure you know the sort of stuff - viagra ads and the like - what a bore! But you can of course read the postings without logging in, and in any case it only takes a couple of minutes to register - you're not losing your privacy, but you're keeping out the spammers. So do please register and continue using the forum - we need your input! Thanks, Lewes Matters Admin.
