Re:Southwark Council on Jam Factory Tue 5th June - 2007/06/26 12:37
The meeting in Southwark was packed, informative and sometimes dramatic. I would advise anyone interested in Angel Property to attend the follow-up meeting on the 19th of July.
In the meantime, readers who follow the Jam Factory story may be interested to hear clips from an interview with Charles Style, recorded in March of this year. I have placed them on PastDevelopments.com because they seem to contradict what he told the Southwark Planning Committee on the 5th of June.
Specifically, Mr. Charles told VivaLewes publisher Nick Williams and myself in March that there was nothing to stop Angel from putting affordable housing in Block D. But when he spoke to Southwark Borough councillors in June, Mr. Style and his consultants claimed that Block D did not meet recognised standards for affordable housing and that three architects had tried and failed to make it do so. Therefore the affordable housing required a large new Block E.
A few weeks after the Planning Committee meeting, on a site visit to the Jam Factory, the councillors again discussed Block D with Mr. Style. Jam Factory residents were not there to ask Mr Style about his change of opinion because the head of Southwark Planning, David Stuart, had told them that neither the developer nor the residents association were allowed to attend. Details of that strange visit, and possible alterations to Angel's planning application can be found on the residents' website MyJamFactory.com.
