Re:Town Hall Exhibition - 2007/05/01 13:56 Reading all this I for one am very glad that our own Council have had the sense to pull back from dealing with this developer. Whatever happens on the site we really can't afford to get mired in this type of planning nightmare.
Thank you for bringing these facts to our attention before it was too late

Re:Town Hall Exhibition - 2007/05/01 14:20 I am informed that the situation in Southwark concerns the suspension of three Planning Officers. My understanding is that there are claims that Officers were recieving money from at least one developer. I would not like to offer my own opinion of this matter, but this is what is being circulated. I would suggest that should anyone wish to obtain further details that they should contact Southwark Council.

Re:Town Hall Exhibition - 2007/05/01 20:14 I can't understand why there seems to be a problem about Angel's planning permission for the Jam Factory. Charles Style explained how his brother Spencer managed it in an interview in The Independent printed on 3 October 2001:

'Spencer has creative, marketing and design flair which I don't have, and he's great with people. Our current big project, the Hartley Jam Factory in Bermondsey, would never have got off the ground without him. He got the head of Southwark Council, the council's head of regeneration and also the head of planning together. He got a commitment from them, which was quite remarkable.'

So, it's as easy as that. I hope for Lewes's sake that things are a bit more formal over any application for the Phoenix site.

Re:Town Hall Exhibition - 2007/05/07 13:10 Southwark Planning Committee were due to have met on 3 May to decide about Block E. The Residents' website has the following statement posted on it.

"A Special Session of the Southwark Planning Committee has now been arranged for the 22nd of May to decide the Jam Factory Planning Applications. At the time of writing there are still un-disclosed 'outstanding issues to be resolved' according to Head of Planning John East. The JFRA understands these are likely to be the daylighting impact of the current Block E design to which we are objecting and a lack of agreement over financial contributions between the developer Angel Property and Southwark Council.

"It is most unusual for a special session to be arranged for an application of this size - being reserved normally for very large applications (eg Elephant and Castle) or complete reviews of planning policy. This we hope is an indication that the Council are now taking these matters seriously and are devoting adequate time to a resolution which we have been lobbying for and which represents the best possible outcome for residents and the future of the Jam Factory."

I think the High Court ordered Southwark to make a decision on 27 March. This was put back to April 16 then May 3. Will May 22 be the last postponemnet?

Re:Town Hall Exhibition - 2007/05/09 13:42 Goodness only knows what will happen in Southwark it is absolutely shocking that these residents are confronted with such a mess.

I read in the express that Mr Style was 'annoyed' with Anne de Vecchi saying that the Council would not sell the land. Given the number of meetings that had been going on, which relied on use of the Council's land, i am rather surprised that no one had mentioned this earlier. Why was our money being wasted on discussions about a pice of land that wasn't even available? It is absolutely bizarre, and makes one think that the 'rumours' about what happened are definitely true.

This is an absolute mess already, exactly like Southwark, except that an application hasn't even been made yet.

Re:Town Hall Exhibition - 2007/05/09 17:30 Of course, now the elections are out of the way Lewes District councillors could always have a change of mind about the land.
