Lewes Matters Discussion Forum

the meeting yesterday - 2005/12/09 00:14 the developer didn't seem to know what he was talking about yesterday.he seemed to think that there would be no increase in traffic for lewes, and just by routing the visitors & residents to the new development straight off the causeway via a junction with traffic lights not a roundabout then the existing traffic problems would all be sorted! oh and apparently the difficulties getting out through the tunnel at 5pm is all because of beddingham so not his problem at all.

Re:the meeting yesterday - 2005/12/09 01:35 I agree, and what about all the builder's traffic during the years of development?

Re:the meeting yesterday - 2005/12/09 06:05 I just don't understand how easing the traffic along a section of the A27 that doesn't bypass the town will relieve traffic through Lewes.
Please, someone explain it to me.

Re:the meeting yesterday - 2005/12/16 23:24 Improving the traffic anywhere just outside Lewes will have a positive effect on traffic within Lewes. Beddingham level crossing, Cooksbridge level crossing, Earwig Corner, they all affect traffic within the town, as any commuter will tell you. If the tunnel is stationary because of Beddingham, people go through the town instead. When Cooksbridge level crossing opens, you get a whole load of traffic entering Lewes at once, instead of spread out. Earwig Corner jams everything up morning and evening, back into the one-way system. It is true it is not the developer's problem, it is the County Council.

However, I do agree that the new development will greatly increase traffic in Lewes, which is the developer's problem.
