Water Magnets - 2008/02/22 11:37 What a brilliant concept - the presence of the Fire Brigade makes a site significantly more vulnerable! Are they some kind of water magnet?

Quote from Stephen Wilson Partnership's letter...

Also, and very importantly, since production of the Flood Risk Assessment, the fire station has decided not to move to the site and this downgrades the Flood Risk Vulnerability Classification to "Less Vulnerable" from "Highly Vulnerable"

You can just imagine a resident saying, as the flood waters rise, "Bit of luck the Fire Brigade aren't just round the corner, otherwise we could be in real trouble".

:-)

Re:Water Magnets - 2008/02/22 14:26 I'm sure what Adam says is incredibly funny, but I don't get it. Perhaps he could go into a little more detail about what it means.

Re:Water Magnets - 2008/03/02 09:38 Sorry, didn't mean to be obscure. Seems to me that, taken literally, the interpretation of the Flood Risk Vulnerability Classification being downgraded by the removal of the Fire Station from the proposal can only be that the presence of a Fire Station makes it more likely to flood, and that DOES seem rather humourous :-)

Re:Water Magnets - 2008/03/12 10:37 Adam: You are confusing vulnerability with flood risk. Emergency services, together with, for example, basement dwellings are highly vulnerable if a flood occurs - there is a higher risk to life and property. Uses such as agriculture are less vulnerable - the risk to life and property is lower. The likelihood of flood occurring is unchanged, but the impact is altered.

Re:Water Magnets - 2008/03/13 14:49 Sorry Adam, it was hard to tell. Was your "It looks great!" thread also intended as facetious?

Dear site visitor at IP address 38.103.63.60. We were forced to make it necessary for you to register and login before making forum postings because of the constant flood of unwanted and often abusive material that was being uploaded by anonymous spammers from all over the world. I'm sure you know the sort of stuff - viagra ads and the like - what a bore! But you can of course read the postings without logging in, and in any case it only takes a couple of minutes to register - you're not losing your privacy, but you're keeping out the spammers. So do please register and continue using the forum - we need your input! Thanks, Lewes Matters Admin.
