LDC promises a two-month consultation period

Lewes District CouncilLewes District Council promises a two months public consultation while setting out its criteria for examining the expected planning application for the Phoenix area.

In its press release no:701, dated July 25 2006, David Neighbour, new Lead Member for Planning, says - "We are hearing strong views about the future needs of the town and its architectural heritage. The questions we will keep coming back to are: is this the right kind of development for the town? Will it help to reinforce those qualities which make Lewes such an attractive place to live, work, visit and shop?"

Lewes Matters has been pressing for an extended consultation period and we are pleased to report that Cllr Neighbour has promised "a public and transparent process... (with) an extended consultation period of around two months."

The full press release with its additional editorial notes covers many aspects for consideration and we will comment further on this important announcement in due course.
