Anthony Dicks, a founder member of Lewes Matters and our regular spokesman, has been invited by Lewes’ Civic Society – the Friends of Lewes – to become a member of the Executive Committee.
Anthony says “While Lewes Matters is, rightly, a single issue group, it shares many objectives with The Friends of Lewes. The Society has an impressive track record in its efforts over 50 years to maintain and promote the unique character of Lewes and our town would be much the poorer without it. As someone who has lived in the town for just three years, I feel honoured to be invited onto the Executive and hope that I will be able to make a suitable contribution to its aims.” Lewes Matters works with Sustrans Traffic and parking appear as a major concern in our survey with 8 out 10 people believing the situation would be made worse by the 'Phoenix Quarter' development. The relationship of the car to retail vitality will undoubtedly appear in Angel Property's feasibility study, however we feel that some other independent research could usefully be done on shopper's habits. To that end we have been in discussions with Sustrans, the UK's leading sustainable transport charity, to explore how best to conduct a range of surveys on the subject, and now have a number of questionnaires prepared. We hope that if you are approached (most likely) in the High St, Cliffe, or at a car park you will take a couple of minutes to give us this valuable information. Click here for more.
