Lewes Chamber of CommerceLetter from Lewes Chamber of Commerce to all Lewes businesses

25th April 2006

Phoenix Development

Further to recent correspondence from Lewes Matters to businesses in the town regarding membership of the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and consultation by the Chamber Executive with its members about Angel Property’s proposals for the Phoenix Development in the town.

The Chamber of Commerce held a meeting on 12th April for members to discuss with Charles Style of Angel Property the current proposals for the site from the viewpoint of businesses in the town, that being the Chamber’s area of responsibility and expertise. At the end of that meeting, it was agreed that the Chamber will shortly hold a further meeting for members with Angel Property, once more concrete information is available - i.e. a) the outline planning application has been completed and submitted by Angel Property, b) their 3D models are available online for all to access, and c) the results of the traffic and retail impact assessments are complete and available. At that point a truly informed discussion can take place between local businesses and the developer about potential economic impact on the town.

The Chamber will open the meeting to all businesses in the town, whether members or not, and will advertise the date and venue via these pages and the Chamber’s website at http://www.leweschamber.org.uk/. All businesses will have the opportunity to examine the proposals and to make their comments at that meeting, although the Chamber can ultimately only represent the views of its members.

Following the meeting, the Chamber Executive will submit to the planning authorities the views of all those members who choose to comment on the planning application via the Chamber.
